Working out and I are not exactly the most compatible duo. I would sooo much rather be “sitting on the couch eating chips” and watching Dance Moms with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc in hand. It can be so tough to get motivated to workout, especially in NYC. There is always a new restaurant opening up, friends asking to go to drinks, or just the couch calling my name. I don’t like working out, but I know it is good for me. Plus, I feel better and look hotter after a good sweat-sesh. So, in the fitness spirit, these are my 5 favorite NYC workout studios and styles. Working out is so much more fun if you look fabulous. Don’t you agree?
– Bar Method Brooklyn –
My favorite instructor at Bar Method Brooklyn
is Steffi. Steffi is super hands on and super encouraging. She is always telling jokes during class to keep you laughing. I know she is trying to distract me from the inevitable mid-class leg shake. Despite her enthusiasm, her classes are incredibly challenging. My legs almost always do the signature barre shake as soon as the thigh section begins. I never thought I could make it through a whole set of push ups on my toes, but Steffi encouraged me, and guess what, I can do it! Ps, mark your calendars we are currently planning a KP Trunk Show with Bar Method Brooklyn for May 1
. If you want to try a class and shop, May 1st is the day!
– Monster Cycle –
Nothing wakes me up (except a cup of coffee) like Monster Cycle
in the morning. Jonathan and Liz are tied for my favorite instructors. Both have an incredible hip hop playlist to motivate you through the entire routine. Best part- there are two huge screens on either side of the instructor so you can watch music videos while you push up that hill. If you want to have an amazing time and get a great cardio workout in, Monster Cycle is for you. I always leave dripping in sweat yet full of energy and confidence.
– FLEX PILATES –
I thought reformer pilates was a breeze until I sat on the reformer at Flex Studios
. The Flex class focuses on strength training and balance all while maintaining incredible form and improving core strength. Just making it through the class is super rewarding. For me, the class is not fun. It’s just not. But afterwards, I feel amazing. This class makes me feel like a strong and toned dancer… if only I looked like one.
– MILE HIGH RUN CLUB –
I hate running. I always have and always will. But somehow, the Dash 28 Class at the Mile High Run Club
makes me feel like a marathoner… at least for a brief 28 minutes. That’s right, this class spends 28 minutes running followed by 15 minutes of kettle bell strength training. Basically, anyone can run for 28 minutes. You do the 28 minutes of running/interval training on the treadmill and surprisingly, the class goes by quickly. I promise! This is the perfect workout for stress relief and blowing off some steam after a long week. I leave feeling accomplished and positive.
– YOGA VIDA –
Yoga Vida is 65 minutes of pure bliss. There is nothing better than taking this class on a Sunday night to recharge for the week ahead. Poses are held for 10 minutes a piece (I know, seems insane). We use bolsters, blocks, blankets and other props to relax our bodies into the pose. By holding for 10 minutes, we are able to settle into the pose and relax our wandering minds. I am not spiritual and I don’t practice meditation, but I cannot recommend this restorative practice enough. I leave in an incredible mood feeling empowered and ready for the week ahead.
