Cocktails We Love: Spicy Margarita

Cocktails We Love: Spicy Margarita

Today I came across an old scientific article claiming tequila may actually be good for you. Curious about the potential health benefits, I proceeded to research the topic a bit more. I am happy to say I found more than a few articles stating the wonderful health benefits that come along with being a tequila lover.

Some standouts include lower blood sugar, lower cholesterol, weight loss assistance, colon cleanser and my favorite, looking like a bad a$$ at the bar. You can read more here and here or skip right to the drinking with this spicy margarita recipe!

This recipe is great because it’s always smooth, spicy and never too sweet. You can adjust the spice level or even skip it all together if you’re not feeling too adventurous. Most importantly, it’s great for a party and according to science, won’t leave you with a hangover. What’s not to love?

– Mix it up –

To get started, you need to whip up a chili infused tequila. You can also get this at any quality liquor store to make things easier. Take 1 cup of tequila and combine with the sliced chili. Let sit for a few hours and then strain. Reserve the tequila for a bit later.

Now, combine the cilantro, Patron, Grand Marnier, lime juice and simple syrup together. In a cocktail shaker, add ice and pour a portion of the mixture in. Shake it like a polaroid picture! Once the ingredients are sufficiently mixed, add a small amount of the chili tequila from earlier. The amount depends on how spicy you like it. In a salted rim glass, gently pour the cocktail over ice and garnish with a lime wedge and a chili.

And now for a classic Spanish drinking chant: Arriba, abajo, al centro, a dentro! Salud!
