Charity of the Month: New Urban Arts

Charity of the Month: New Urban Arts

To give back this month, Kendra Phillip has decided to partner with New Urban Arts. New Urban Arts was founded in 1997 in Providence, Rhode Island by four college students and ten high school students. Since then, it has gained national recognition as a community art studio for its innovative approaches to education and art-making.

Charity of the Month: New Urban Arts

At New Urban Arts, the mission is to build an artistic community where young people are inspired to use their art to become more independent and creative thinkers. The free, year-round, out-of-school programs are offered to urban high school students throughout Providence, RI. The students are encouraged by their trained artist mentors to engage in leadership opportunities, take risks, and learn how to collaborate with others inside the classroom and out. These programs generate creativity and of course, fun.

At New Urban Arts, the students and artist mentors treat everyone equally. You don’t have to be an amazing artist, or even have talent to go here. The aim is to include everyone because we all have something to teach and something to learn. In addition, to learning, the mentors encourage the students to take on leadership roles. This is important to developing a sense of pride and creativity in life. Becoming a leader means stepping out of your comfort zone and evolving into a more responsible being. New Urban Arts helps students do so by aiding them in finding their unique voice, a connection to what inspires them, and encouraging them to take risks.

New Urban Arts works with larger organizations like College Visions,The Providence Public Schools, and The Rhode Island College of Social Work to better provide a wider variety of services to their students. By doing so, they are able to offer all their students free art classes, snacks, bus passes, tutoring workshops, and homework help. New Urban Arts is about more than just art, it is about a positive community and environment outside of the classroom.

This organization is very important to us. As you know, we are a jewelry company based out of Rhode Island. We work hard to keep all our products made in the U.S.A. Programs like New Urban Arts encourage students to become involved in artistic careers and lifestyles. Please help us give back to this creative organization and our future artistic generation.
