Biarritz City Guide

Biarritz City Guide

Biarritz is the Cote des Basques’ most glamorous surf town. In Biarritz old-money somehow marries beautifully with the laid back surfer vibe. You will find filthy rich aristocrats and movie stars strolling the cobbled avenues while barefooted surfers bask in the sun after a day spent riding the waves.

If you’ve only got a limited amount of time to spend in paradise, start here. Book your stay at Hotel Windsor Biarritz. It’s a modern boutique hotel just a few seconds away from the Grand Plage. After checking in, slip on your espadrilles and start exploring. Meander along the coastline from the Grand Plage and head left towards the quaint cobbled downtown streets. Stop at Maison Adam for a traditional French macaron or pick up a box for later. Wind up the road towards Bali Bowls for an antioxidant packed acai bowl or try Petite Restauration for inventive burgers and fries in a laid back café. Shop along Rue Mazagran being sure to stop in BTZ, the local surf shop, for a few souvenirs to take back home. Stop by the Halles de la Ville de Biarritz, a covered market where local vendors sell fresh fruit, rich cheeses, prepared foods, freshly baked breads and sweet treats. Relax in the water or take a surfing lesson at Plage de la Côte des Basques before freshening up for the evening. Go to Les Cent Marches for stellar sunsets and a bottle of rosé before dinner at Le Surfing followed by drinks and dancing at the beachside La Arena.
